Unboxing the Windows 7 Party Pack

Those of us who were selected to host the Windows 7 launch parties have begun receiving our “official” party packs. Mine came today, and I was eager to open it up and see just what was inside. It wasn’t a large box, but was fairly hefty in weight for its size, and it came via UPS but I didn’t have to sign for it. There was no secret as to what it was, as you can see in the photo below.DSC_5801

  • Opening the box revealed the following contents:

    - A “desktop design” poster
  • - A deck of Windows 7 playing cards
  • - A Windows 7 jigsaw puzzle
  • - Four crepe paper streamers in various colors
  • - A bag of balloons
  • - A package of Windows 7 branded napkins
  • - Ten Windows 7 tote bags
  • - A pack of “thank you for attending” cards with a URL tDSC_5805o visit to obtain more information and special offers

Of course, the big prize was the two copies of Windows 7 Ultimate, one in 32 bit and one 64 bit. The 32 bit copy is the special “signature edition” signed by Steve Ballmer. Okay, that’s sort of cool. Maybe someday it’ll be worth a fortune on eBay. :)

But hey, what are you supposed to do if more than ten people show up at your party? I guess we can raffle off the totebags or play a game of Texas Hold ‘em with the cards to see who gets the genuine Windows 7 napkins with their cake; the rest will have to make do with regular old napkins from WalMart.

So, that’s what you get, and now it’s time for me to start planning the menu. This party has already cost us about $1500, since we decided to buy a new TouchSmart computer and install Windows 7 on it so we would have two separate demo stations set up. Are we dedicated hosts, or what?

Happy partying!

Wow - sounds like fun! Wish I was closer so I could party with you! :)

Don't be " Tardy for the Party " ( ok maybe I do watch too much of the Housewives on Bravo ) - your party sounds like fun. I am gonna wait a year or so before making the change to Windows 7. Vista is tragic and don't want to make another Microsoft mistake. Good Luck & have fun !!!!

Sounds like a happening party at Deb's place! I'm jealous! If I also lived near you, I'd be a party crasher as well. :) I'm sure people wouldn't mind if there were no "giveaways" left: Just partying with the latest OS and enjoying other people's company is good enough. Of course I'd bring food, sodas and utensils in order not to be a "free-loader". It would be a Geek's Paradise, if only for one night. Enjoy it and don't overload the bandwidth!
I applied back in September, but really didn't think I had a chance. Once they saw the last name, I knew they would not accept me. I guess there's no room for Hispanic Geeks. But, oh, the "Host A Party" invites for Betty Crocker's Company sure came in.
But, party hardy and don't be tardy!

Did you notice that the streamers were in the colors of the windows logo?

People can have as may parties as they want, but I won't trade my Vista Ultimate for anything (and I am a techy).

You ROCK Deb! Go girl! Party, party, party. Just don't kill yourself doin it. Enjoy yourself.

Mike,
...You are a prejudicial douche
"Betty Crocker's Company sure came in."

Jack Daniels, Pee Wee Herman and I have been partying for quite sometime now with Windows® 7. From all the betas to this retail version.

I am glad to see you are throwing a party for others. Big spender you! { Enjoy }

As for the party goodies, what's a party without ... party hats?

For those of us that don't get to come to YOUR party, we can have OUR own.

Just slam a few of these down and yes, party hats are optional.

My favorite, the "Pee Wee Herman"
2 oz Jack Daniel's® Tennessee whiskey
5 oz Squirt® citrus soda
Pour both ingredients into a highball glass filled with ice cubes.
Attempt to stir briskly ( depends on how many Pee Wees already consumed )
as to how well they get stirred. Start slammin' 'em. Yummy!

After a few of these, you will be hollering out to yourself, "Help I've fallen and I can't reach my keyboard." Your IRC buddies will be so envious when you are finally able to sit up and tap tap tap to them about how much fun your Windows® 7 party was.

For those of you leaving posts saying you are not going to upgrade to Windows® 7 for another year or ever, you don't know what you're missing.

This OS just plain rocks, all my OLD ( mb & cpu had a birthday last mo. now 5 yrs. old )
Intel® P4 3ghz Prescott chip, 3gb ram & all hardware still work just fine.
From pci ide cards ( Promise® & Silcon Image® 8 drives ) to my Logitec® Pro 3000 webcam. Even though I only went to the 4th grade and my Windows Experience Index is
a 2.3 ( thank GOD for a SATA boot drive or my index would have even been lower ) YIKES!
I can honestly say from hands on experience, this OS is the sweetest yet. My machine runs like a finely tuned Singer® sewing machine. Networking for Dummies® reading definitely NOT required. Using win7-7600-16385 Ultimate x86 Retail.

Well enough advertising for Micro$oft.

Deb...
I have enjoyed over the years your WXPNews, VistaNews & now Win7News...
Keep up the GOOD work! I take off my party hat and salute YOU!
Now 'tis time for another Pee Wee Herman.

For those of you who think you should wait any longer to switch to Windows 7, you are making a big mistake. You are missing out on much more than you think. I have been running 7 for about a year now and it is the best operating system ever. Microsoft finally got this one right. It has the best of everything you can imagine, very easy to learn and use. Go for it, you will be glad you did.

I got my party pack on Monday as well...and I have installed the 64 bit program on my touch screen laptop I have. I am thanking all the tech gods for 7! And as soon as I get my (paid for) version of 7, it will go on the desktop! I cannot wait to rid myself of Vista. The sooner the better. I will be partying hearty for 7 release AND for the end of Vista in this house!

"Mike, ...You are a prejudicial douche"
C'mon, Mickey, until you experience bias, you will always believe it doesn't exist. Make sure you know what "prejudice" means before you show the world just how ignorant you are.
From Wikipedia:
A prejudice is a preconceived belief, opinion or judgment especially toward a group of people characterized by their race, social class, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age or religion. Also, it means prior beliefs (without knowledge of the facts) and includes "any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence." Although positive and negative prejudice both exist, when used negatively, "prejudice" implies fear and antipathy toward such a group.
Can you tell me what group, defined above, I referenced? I find it incredible that people (such as mickey57) make such statements and believe they are righteous, yet lack the moral decency to back up such assertions.
Deb, I apologize for these comments, but I was only making a statement that really didn't require any feedback. I really hope your party goes great and continue to post blogs. I didn't mean to cast any racial bias towards our common goal; that Win 7 is finally here. Apparantly, mickey57 took it upon himself to make it his business to call me a "prejudicial douche". As you know, (and maybe mickey57 didn't), the "chosen few" were not selected by Microsoft, but by a second party. The "Betty Crocker" comment was meant to inform readers that we Hispanics are capable of more than just cooking.
P.S.: Shirlee Shyster: Great recipe for a Win 7 cocktail! I raise my glass to you and say, "Let's drink to that!"

...Mike,You talk out your butt. You are prejudice.Maybe a little affirmative action for you

"Mike,You talk out your butt. You are prejudice.Maybe a little affirmative action for you"
Mickey57, Get a life. Don't put your comments or dirty words on this site. Maybe on "Aryan Life" or "Hitler's Corner", but not here. This is about Windows 7. Can you define my prejudice against what group of people? You can't. KNOCK IT OFF, MAN!
(And please use proper English and puncuation, if you can)

I have installed a 64 bit program on my laptop and it works great. I wanted to thank all the technicians for that. It will definitely go for desktop edition.

I admire what you have done here. I like the part where you say you are doing this to give back but I would assume by all the comments that this is working for you as well. http://www.edhardy-buy.com/ Took me awhile to read all the comments. herve leger dress for you !

.....Enough said...Eat bat nuts little mike

Windows 7 is hardly flawless it's final version appears to be the worthy successor to Windows XP that Vista never was.

It's new taskbar replaces the old small icons and text labels for running apps with larger, unlabeled icons. If you can keep the icons straight, the new design painlessly reduces Taskbar clutter. If you don't like it, you can shrink the icons and bring the labels back.
