New FlipShare Software
Flip Video’s FlipShare software comes pre-loaded on Flip camcorders and launches automatically when you connect the camcorder to your laptop or desktop. The software allows you to manage your videos. There’s no extra software disc needed. Plus, FlipShare works on both PCs and Macs.
FlipShare's intuitive design lets you view your videos in full-screen mode. You can save and organize your videos on your computer by creating folders of your choosing and simply dragging and dropping your videos into the desired folders. FlipShare also features instant uploads to YouTube, MySpace and other sites. And FlipShare lets you email links to your videos to your family and friends. This is much more convenient than trying to send an e-mail with a massive attachment which usually just stays in the outbox, never sending.
In mid-June, Flip announced an update to the FlipShare software. The newest version of FlipShare was recently released, and it offers several new features that make it an even better tool for sharing your videos:
- FlipShare now lets you create Flip Channels to share your Flip videos with specific groups of family and friends. So if you’ve just gone on vacation with a group of friends, you can create a Flip Channel for that group of friends and share your vacation videos with them—and only them. If you perhaps want to share one or two of your vacation videos with your coworkers, you can create a different Flip Channel for that group.
- If you like to frequently share videos with a parent or a good friend, create a Flip Channel for them too; when you have new content you want to share, simply drag and drop those videos into the Flip Channel, directly on your FlipShare desktop. Flip Channel members will receive an e-mail notifying them they have new videos to watch.
- Videos sent via Flip Channels can now be viewed anytime, anywhere at FlipShare.com. Members of Flip Channels will have an online library allowing them to access all the content you’ve chosen to share with them.
- The snapshot capture feature, which lets you grab a still image from your video, has been vastly improved too. Now, enhanced freeze-frame capabilities let you grab a snapshot from any of the thirty frames that comprise each second of your video—meaning it’s now easier than ever to get that perfect snapshot with no blurring.
There is talk of a forthcoming FlipShare iPhone application. Eventually, you’ll soon be able to view your Flip Videos totally on-the-go.

Recently I purchased the flip camcorder with flip software preinstalled in it and am thoroughly satisfied with its features.Its amazing experience to use it.

Awesome! I’ll have to grab a copy right away. I wanted to come and say thanks for leaving a comment on my blog post about the Mino HD. It’s one of my favorite comments I’ve ever read because I, like you, hate the fact that people pronounce the name as “minnow.” :)
I haven’t had a chance to check out the Flip Ultra HD yet, but it looks to be a solid improvement. I’ll let you know if I ever get my hands on one!

I can report on one serious flaw with the new Flipshare 4.5, it no longer names the clips in ascending order. Therefore you can not sort the clips in order to make a movie. Sorting by date is in descending order, so that is not helpful either. Tech support has no fix for this, other than to name each clip manually. That is very tedious when you have over 100 clips in one folder and all you want to do is combine them into a movie that can be watched from beginning to end.

I agree with last commenter. The ascending order is extremely frustrating when trying to quickly compile a lot of clips, unless you don't mind watching your latest vacation backward!

I have had huge problems with the camera. It stores vids on my computer then will not allow me to use them to make movies...it will not take a video from my computer Flip folder and upload it on to my camcorder...cannot access my Flip Channels because it will not accept my password...notifications sent to friends about new vids on my channels take them to a page with nowhere to go, no hyperlink to the vids! Love the camera and its capabilities, but there are major software issues.

As an addendum to my last post, the author of this article has obviously not worked with the camera but has read the specs and product descriptions. If you had tried all of these functions you would be writing a different review.

the flipshare 5.0 fixed the issue with sorting the video files. Much more options so you can see newest or oldest first.

The ability to export and utilize with a consumer/pro video editor is very poor. The MP4 compression format is proprietary, and utilizing the "movie" export which does (sometimes but not always) create a WMV format lessens the already poor quality.
This is lowgrade junk.

I just bought a Flipshare Ultra HD. I'm running Windows 7. The camera takes videos fine, but when I go to play them back, they play back with a HORRIBLE SEPIA-TONE color. All the other videos I have gotten off of my other video camera play just fine. Anyone having problem withe color tones being off..??

It become easy and hassle free for Flip users to use this camcorder without any additional software. They can use it anywhere with any computer or laptop.
Now a days preloaded software are widely comes in almost every device. That's call true plug and play experience.

I am frustrated by the inability to make a DVD movie sing my Flipminohd for my family to view via DVD player to a TV. Can anyone help me with this problem? Fiipshare is a real let down for me in this way. It seems it works with only some DVD Maker software which accept MP4 format. Well neither my Vista or my newer Microsoft Windows 7 have the DVD maker/burner to do this. Why was this not included? My mother is terminally ill and I'm trying to capture as much precious time with her as I have and only to share with family = very personal, not about online sharing for me. I'm heartbroken yesterday and today to find that I can't do this; it'sthe only reason I bought the Flip (although hopeful there would be happier things to shoot in future). On top of that I find Fiip discontinued as of last week. I am going to try to call Microsoft (although I have never had ANY help /live person there ever help me) to ask for the newest version of the Microsoft DVD Maker for apparantly there is an upgraded version that works; slim chance of getting it, but I did endure 2 bug ridden and system crashing years of virtually beta testing Vista when they launched it the week I got my then new computer, so of course it's not the most recent Flip compatible version. 1. ANY helpful suggestions appreciated at this point. 2. Should I abandon Flip and buy a better camera and shot video and upload to computer and hopefully be able to burn DVD? Be sure I will look into the tech. paramaters BEFORE I make that purchase, but don't know how good an option really is? Are some cameras good for shooting videos and making moview of them? Thanks so much . . .
