Sony Launches Limited Ed. Second Gen eBook Specific to Danielle Steel

SonyReaderdaniellesteel-lg In case you haven't heard, the eBook wars are heating up. The big news today was that Amazon announced the upcoming third generation of the Kindle, Kindle DX, due out this summer. But in an attempt to not get lost in the shuffle and more importantly get in on a few last-minute Mother's Day orders, Sony made an announcement of their own, the release of the Danielle Steel Limited Edition Reader Digital Book.

This limited release looks to be a repackaging of Sony's existing Red Reader Digital book, the PRS-505/RC. The Danielle Steel portion of the bundle includes downloads of the Danielle Steel titles "Sisters," "Bungalow 2," and "Echoes"; some sort of letter from the author herself; and a custom embossed Danielle Steel book cover. Of course you can also download all the public domain titles you can read for free, and buy others from Sony's eBook Store and others.

Hundreds of millions of copies of Danielle Steel's books have sold the old fashioned way over the years, so the audience is obviously there for something like this, meaning that Sony could do well with this. More importantly though actually it could start something of an industry trend if the price stays nice or even drops. Maybe a Sci-Fi, Mystery, or plain, small ultra-cheap travel themed eBooks. I might be on board for something like that, especially the latter. Check out the specs for this eBook here.
