Socket Sense Surge Protector Extends or Contracts as Needed
One of the oldest adages in the electronics industry is that a system is only as good as its weakest component. Pretty much every one of these components needs power and if it can't get it via a connection with a neighbor it is going to need to plug into an outlet. But then there is the inevitable problem of bulky AC adapters taking up more than one slot on a surge protector due to just being too big. In this case, you've found your weakest component, your surge strip. This is where Ideative's Socket Sense comes in.
A 13" surge protector that expands in segments out to a total length of 18", Socket Sense has six angled outlets featuring 2,160 Joules of surge protection throughout. The price is a little high at $29.99 ($26.00 at Amazon), but that is in comparison to your standard low tech $10 Home Depot power strip. Most homes set up with modern gadgetry are going to have need of multiple power strips anyway, so just as there will always be need for these cheapies, a quality specialty device like the Socket Sense may also have a niche as well. Check out the specs below.
Features
- Fully Adjustable Sockets
- Surge and Ground LEDs
- 2160 Joules of Surge Protection
- Cable Management Channels
- Six Foot Power Cord
- Metal Oxide Varistor Components
- Power Switch with 15A Breaker
- Keyholes for Wall Mounting

I am dissatisfied with Amazon's policy of removing the sales ranking of materials with 'adult' content. It has come to my attention that Amazon's practice is both homophobic and unevenly applied. As a result, I am taking my business elsewhere unless Amazon changes its policy immediately to reflect a fair and balanced treatment of gay and lesbian Americans.
Some examples of egregious 'delisting' include:
"The Lesbian Parenting Book: A Guide to Creating Families and Raising Children"
while "Playboy: 6 Decades of Centerfolds" was left ranked.
I am encouraging my friends and family to also boycott Amazon until further notice is received. I am horrified by these homophobic and hateful practices which leave "A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality" as the first result for a search for 'homosexuality' but ban "Heather Has Two Mommies" from appearing on the list.
I await your response. Until then, I am not purchasing through Amazon.

Amazon is a homophobic corporation and has insulted millions of people worldwide with their fundamentalistic propaganda which they clearly support in removing HBLT litterature and classifying them as "adult" whilst books on incest-orgies and heterosexual graphic sex novels still exists en-masse.
There are several campaigns being ran in Sweden as off now to boycott Amazon, both online and on the streets in form of posters.
I will not buy another item from Amazon until a public apology has been stated, and I do hope they learn that insulting millions of customers during recession is a foolish idea.

^^^That's all terribly interesting, and do whatever you will, but I fail to make the connection between all of that and expandable surge protectors.

boure -- I think they did a search on "sockets" and went from there.
HotScot on April 13, 2009 at 04:18 PM
I can think of several things these grievance mongers could do with an expandable surge protector, and I would gladly assist them. Repeatedly, and with vigor.
Gawrsh, a Swedish boycott? What a fearsome threat. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

err it's an *expandable* surge suppressor...get it? Or maybe it's because it has 6 "sockets". It's all about the patriarchy man....the expandable, 6 socketed patriarchy.
Stephen Krueger on April 13, 2009 at 04:19 PM
The expandable surge protector uses only male to female connections. The double standard here is obvious. Would amazon list a male-to-male or female-to-female surge expandable surge protector? It's just another slap to the face for the GLBT community.

I eagerly await the 1U rackmount unit. LOL!
Borris on April 13, 2009 at 04:28 PM
Plus a hacker has already admitted to being the cause to the AMZN ban.
The hacker wrote a script and 3rd world contractors to flag as many of the GLBT stuff as "inappropriate". The automated AMZN system (over the weekend) removed them once they had reached a certain threshold .
AMZN fixed it Monday morning.

Well, gee... I just followed the Instapundit link to get here. Didn't realize it was Amazon. I really don't give a flying @#$% about Amazon or their rankings. I refuse to do business with Amazon because, due to my past experience with their customer service and lack thereof, I am convinced that Amazon is neither honest nor honorable, therefore not worthy to be trusted with my information.
Jeff on April 13, 2009 at 04:52 PM
I'm as queer as the proverbial three-dollar bill as well as a longtime AMZN customer and am frankly embarrassed by these holier-than-thou gay zealots demanding that Amazon step into line. Remember when everyone worried that right-wing Christians wanted to tell people and companies what to say, what to sell, what NOT to sell, or even what to think? Yes, there are people like that but it turns out that the intolerance today is coming from elsewhere. These losers demonstrate that pretty conclusively, no?
And before the reactionary anti-Christian attack machine cranks up, not only am I gay, I'm also agnostic. I just have tolerance for diversity of opinion (anybody remember that??), unlike most professional gay activists.
Phil on April 13, 2009 at 05:15 PM
The first two comments remind me of a person saying "I will not tolerate intolerant people."

This surge protector is a phallic symbol, don't you see? It's got some of our 'friends' all hot and bothered.

Given the fact that these exact same posts are appearing all over the internet, on any commentable blog that links to Amazon.com in any way, it wouldn't surprise me if the very same hacker who messed with Amazon's ratings system also hired a spambotnet to fill everyone else's forums with faux outrage from nonexistant gay zealots.
If it looks too crazy to be real, it usually is.

No, Amazon was not on a mission. The got pwned by some hackers who did some searches then complained about all the stuff they found. Dont know how their marking system works, but they came out of the closet(the hackers) and told everyone about it.
So now the GLBT community can go back into their lair and lay wait for the next "offender" and pretend someone really gives a s*** one way or the other.

I should have known that a site called "End User" was frequented by homosexuals, but, honestly, this is too much!

What's the latinization of "One who is tired of people whose entire life is driven by their need to validate their sexuality?"
Whatever it is, I'm one of them.
There's an entire world beyond what happens to your crotch, people. Please go discover it.
Jeff on April 14, 2009 at 08:53 AM
Curmudgeon #5: Spot on. The gay lib meme was originally "it shouldn't matter" and it actually no longer does in any substantial way. It unfortunately morphed into "nothing else matters" right about when most folks became convinced that it doesn't matter.
ZZMike on April 14, 2009 at 10:14 PM
As long as persons like those first two insist on spamming unrelated groups and spewing their drivel all over other people's territory, they will never - never - win the rest of us over to their cause.
I'm sure Amazon will buckle under, given the terrifying threat of losing their business.
I have no doubt that there are more suitable venues for their agenda, but of course that is not the plan. We must all be assimilated.
We as a people are quite tolerant of almost everything - as we have always been - but we will not stand having other people's views forced upon us.

As a Kindle owner, a better reason to boycott AMZN is that they cancelled out the Kindle account of a customer who returned electronics products once too often. That's heavy handed. That customer paid for his Kindle and the content, and they just pull the plug. Why didn't they merely refuse to sell him more electronics?
BTW the expandable surge protector is a great idea...because of those big-box or sideways type plugs that always take up two or three spaces.
