Free Amazon iPhone App Released (Featuring Amazon Remembers)
That's right--we've jumped into the iPhone arena. The Amazon iPhone app lets you quickly search, compare prices, read reviews, buy products on Amazon, and more.
The Amazon app's key feature is an experimental idea called Amazon Remembers. Remembers lets you use the camera on your iPhone to take a picture anywhere of something you want to remember and research later. The photos you take from the app are stored both locally and on the Amazon.com servers. In the meantime, the application will try to find the matching product page for the item you took a picture of. When it does, Amazon will email you and connect the photo with a link to the product page.
One of the developers of the Amazon app, Mark Cogan, had this to say about it:
"We had already put a lot of work into optimizing the Amazon Mobile web site for the iPhone, but we wanted to deliver the best possible experience for our customers who use iPhones. So we spent a lot of time really working to get the interface and performance right on the Amazon Mobile app. And we wanted to build something for our customers that you could only do through a dedicated Amazon application -- that's how Amazon Remembers got started."
In addition to this, you access your existing Amazon.com shopping cart, track the status of an order, change your payment/shipping and 1-Click options, edit your wish lists, and so on.
