Samsung Shows Off 82" 2160p HDTV

Quadtv_82_2 Samsung showed up at this year’s Society for Information Display (SID) International Symposium in Los Angeles with a mind-blowing 82” 2160p Quad HDTV.  That's four times the resolution of a regular 1080p HDTV.

The prototype features a resolution of 3820x2160 pixels with a refresh rate of 120Hz.  Compare that to the kind of HDTV that's currently on the market:  1080p TVs that run at 1920x1080 pixels.
  Or to put it another way, that's an 8.3-megapixel screen compared to today's 2.1-megapixel TVs.

Yet Samsung is apparently doing themselves one better at the SID show, as there are plans to also debut an 82" multitouch e-board (or e-whiteboard) which is pretty exciting, though one wonders how long your arms would need to be to reach the top of one mounted on an office wall.  Maybe it'll come with an included stepladder?

Man that would be Awesome to watch Lost on...

How is 2160p four times the resolution of 1080p?, wouldn't it be twice the resolution since 1080x2= 2160?

The reason you aren't picking up on the 4x increase is because you are looking at the wrong number. Reference the number of pixels mentioned above and you'll see what I mean. Here's how it pans out...

According to the article, the length virtually doubled from 1920 to 3820. The height also doubled from 1080 to 2160.

The analogy is this. A box, dimension 1x1, is 1 square unit in size. If you make it 2x2, it becomes 4 square units. Since each dimension is doubled, the math will pan out accordingly.

Hope that helps!

You are confusing resolution (= pixels / inch) with size (= number of pixels).

How much does it weight?

What do you do with that much resolution? Satellite, cable, Blu-ray, and broadcast TV don't provide enough information to use all of those pixels. I suppose you could watch four channels at once at full 1080.

You use it as a computer monitor. Surf the net while watching a 1080p movie. Regular TV is dead.

The HDTV is easy to set up, with an automated feature that finds all the HDTV channels on air or your local cable. The black levels and contrast are quite good. This screen features 720P progressive scan.
Good image quality watching local HDTV stations, DVD movies and video games. This 32" LCD HDTV has 3 HDMI inputs, S video, composite video in, component video in and optical audio out.

For the two retards at the top....

1080p=2.07mega pixels

2160p=8.3mega pixels

that sounds like 4 times as much does it?
